Preliminary Task - Michal, Jake, Alex

For our preliminary task we were asked to use a range of shot types and film a short clip of our choice. We had to film a conversation and use the 180 degree line rule to film a shot counter shot, in other words we kept on the same side of the line to not disorientate the viewer. We used an establishing shot to set our scene and a close up shot to show the door opening into the canteen. We then used a match on action shot to keep the flow of the scene and we filmed this very accurately. After this we used a long shot to show both characters at the dining table this informs the audience of the characters positions and their surroundings. We then used the 180 degree rule for filming our conversation which was filmed accurately and looked good in our opinion. We also edited this part of the film to make it seem realistic and cut parts out without big pauses and the dialogue flowed consistently. Finally at the end of our film we see character 2 eating his lunch in the canteen and this encourages the audience to believe both characters are in the same space.
Overall, our group thought our preliminary task went well and we used every type of shot required for this task. We have good ideas for our childrens film and will use some of the same shots used in the preliminary task.
